I hope you were able to enjoy the break from school routine and homework over the school holidays. The children and teachers have come back much refreshed.
Over the holidays I looked into the school’s archives to get ready for our 20th birthday celebrations. Yes, We are 20 years old!
We are celebrating in a few ways- firstly with a special mass on Thursday, August 10th at 9am and later in the year on Saturday November 11 with a picnic and Exhibition. We are planning a 90’s funday just for the children on August 10th with a whole school photo and a commemorative gift for the children to keep as a memento.
Our school had a very strong foundation Principal Sr Marea Ross. She created a school with a strong connection with the land and aboriginal heritage. Below are the first students praying on the site of the school. The line of parents are parallel with Alex Avenue which of course looks very different. Sr Marea consulted with parents, gaining their ideas and developing a happy partnership. Most importantly, along with her team of teachers she imbued the school with the spirit of Mary MacKillop- caring for others in a joyful way, centred on a love for God. The look of the school was established- cottages around a central gathering area. A warm and friendly, community spirited, faith filled school was created setting a direction that it is my privilege to continue.
