NAPLAN and Tell them from Me Survey

This week is NAPLAN week. For Year 3 it’s their first grown up opportunity to enter the world of formal assessments. On the whole they were excited to see what the experience would be like. Year 5 seemed a little more relaxed. NAPLAN does give us valuable information but its not useful in the day to day teaching and learning of the students as the results take a long time to come.

There’s a lot of bad publicity about NAPLAN at the moment and I would agree that its value is overinflated. We assess the students every day at school to see how they are going with their reading, writing and Maths to inform our teaching.  We involve the children so they know how well they are going, We do so in informal ways and more formal ways. Just recently we assessed the whole school with their writing in a fun way, using the stimulus of the crate. As a whole staff are working with a teacher educator from the catholic Education Office using this data to create motivating but rigorous writing lessons for the children..

Tell Them from Me Survey

At St Joseph’s we use many ways to check how well our school is doing. For example we had the afternoon pickup survey and the communication survey in 2016. Last year we had the Quality Catholic School survey.

In the coming weeks we will be inviting students, teachers and parents to provide feedback on their experience of our school using an online survey. The surveys are an important part of our whole school evaluation and planning process.

We would like to invite you to complete the Tell Them From Me (TTFM) Partners in Learning survey. As we value the role of parents and carers within our school community we would greatly appreciate your feedback. The information you provide will be used to maintain our commitment to working together in partnership to further improve student learning and wellbeing.

The survey is anonymous and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. From next week you are able to access the parent survey on your computer or mobile device by using the URL below:

Any parents who wish to complete the survey are welcome to do so. We anticipate one response per family.
